On December 20, 2022, the State Institution “National Center for Patents and Information” of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, together with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), held a seminar on the topic “Presentation of legislation on geographical indications and appellations of origin”.

The event was attended by Director of the Office ,Mr. Mirzo Ismoilzoda, Head of the FAO Representative Office in the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Oleg Guchgeldiev, other representatives of this organization Mr. Dmitry Zyagintsev, Ms. Irina Kireeva, representative of the Patent Office of the Republic of Georgia Mr. Irakli Kasradze and staff of the Office.

Opening the seminar, Mirzo Ismoilzoda greeted all the participants of the event and noted that geographical indications and the appellation of origin of goods are considered one of the important objects of industrial property and contribute to the presentation of domestic goods and products on the market and develop the country’s export potential. In this regard, the Office, together with FAO, is developing a draft Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On Geographical Indications and Appellations of Origin of Goods” and works in this direction are at the final stage.

During the seminar, the participants made presentations on the legislation and practices of their countries in the field of registration of geographical indications and appellations of origin of goods, and a joint discussion was held as well.
