On March 4-5 of this year, in the city of Turkestan of the Republic of Kazakhstan, an international seminar “Legal protection of geographical indications and their role in promoting regional brands” was held.
The seminar was attended by representatives of the patent offices of the republics of Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and representatives of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in full-time and remote format. From the Republic of Tajikistan, the director of the State Institution “National Center for Patents and Information” of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mirzo Ismoilzoda, took part in a remote format.
Ismoilzoda Mirzo in his speech expressed gratitude to the organizers for the invitation to participate in this event dedicated to geographical indications and noted that recently the development of regions through a system of regional brands, which are protected as designations associated with the territories of origin of goods, works, services, has become increasingly important , that is, the name of the place of origin of the goods and geographical indications.
It should be noted that the state policy for promoting regional brands is clearly outlined in the National Development Strategy NDS-2030, which sets the task of “promoting the formation of national brands and improving the image, and promoting the products of enterprises in the real sector of the economy of Tajikistan in the domestic and world markets.”
